Ultrasound & Massage = POOR Recovery in Adhesive Capsulitis!
This 2009 study looked at the data of over 2000 patients diagnosed as having adhesive capsulitis who had completed an episode of outpatient physical therapy. There were also over 1000 PTs who participated in this study.
Result #1: Iontophoresis & phonophoresis interventions REDUCED the odds of improvement in pain and functional scores
Result #2: Ultrasound & massage interventions also REDUCED the odds of improvement in pain and functional scores
Result #3: Joint mobilizations & manual therapy interventions INCREASED the odds of improvement in pain scores
Result #4: Exercise interventions INCREASED the odds of improvements in functional scores
